When it comes to successful streaming services online, we must include Disney Plus. Disney Plus launched precisely 12 months ago, on November 12, 2019. As most would guess, Disney Plus streams movies from the Disney franchise. Including Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar. People often don’t realize that this subscription also includes films from National Geographic.
When Disney Plus first launched, it quickly exceeded 54 million subscribers globally. Even during the COVID pandemic, Disney Plus still stays actively subscribed in 31% of U.S. homes.
This article will dive into the top 5 reasons we believe that Disney Plus is worth it!
Reason 1: Price
We believe Disney Plus did everyone a favor when it came to price. Disney Plus costs $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year. At first glance, you might be thinking $70 bucks a year for “another” streaming subscription? Yet when you break it down, it turns out to be extremely reasonable; here’s what we mean.
Movie theater prices have been on the rise every year since 1993. The average movie theater ticket price comes in at around $9.26. That means that to get tickets into a movie for a family of four would cost roughly $37.04. Remember, this does not include any drinks or snacks either! To go out and see two movies a year, our family of four would have spent at the varying minimum of $74.08. With all of that said, having access to Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic from the comfort of your own home now makes $69.99 a year look like pretty cheap entertainment.
You can also break it down another way. If you chose to buy even just one movie off of Amazon Prime, you’d be looking at spending anywhere from $6.99 to upwards of $29.99. With over 500 films to choose from on Disney Plus, if you watch even one movie a month, the subscription does come down to being some of the cheapest entertainment to stream in your home today.
Reason 2: Variety
Disney Plus has entertainment the whole family can enjoy. You won’t have to worry about the children stumbling upon anything that they shouldn’t be watching on Disney Plus, as they don’t offer any movies that are rated R or any TV shows with a rating of TV-MA. In today’s world, this can be a very nice feature for parents concerned with the content that is so easily accessible to their children.
Disney Plus offers a vast collection of over 500 movies from Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic. It doesn’t stop there; they also provide over 7,500 tv shows. Disney Plus also offers originals that can only be viewed with a Disney Plus subscription. Disney Plus also now includes The Simpsons and the X-Men movies after taking over FOX.
With over 500 movies and 7,500 tv episodes, there will surely be entertainment for the entire family to enjoy all year long.
Reason 3: Vault Classics
While Disney Plus’s content library is vast, it is still relatively small compared to other streaming services like NetFlix. With that said, one of the best features we have found with Disney Plus is the exclusivity of their original shows. Some of the original shows on Disney Plus are based on the enormous Blockbuster hit franchises. So if you happen to be a huge Star Wars fan or into comics and love Marvel. There are likely original shows based on these franchises that you won’t be able to view anywhere else.
Secondly, we need to discuss Disney’s vault movies. Remember those hard to find titles that were sealed away in the Disney vault? Not anymore. A year ago, when the Disney Plus service first launched, all the movies that would only appear every ten years for sale in stores are now included in digital form on Disney Plus. This means you can now watch your favorites like Snow White, Pinnochio, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and many more are now available to you all year long at a push of your remote control. We can’t think of any other platform or streaming service that compares to having exclusive content for being a subscriber.
Reason 4: Pixar Shorts
Pixar shorts are the little movies that they would play before the featured Pixar film. Many fans of Pixar would get more excited to see the short than they would the full-featured film as these shorts would usually be very creative and even sometimes sad. Pixar shorts’ exciting thing is that they were only ever played before a movie in the theaters, so unless you went back multiple times, you knew you were only ever going to see the short once. Disney has now included all of these little shorts into the Disney Plus package, allowing you to watch Pixar Shorts anytime you want. There are also never before seen shorts available that intersect with the hits ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Cars’.
Reason 5: Exclusive Movies
Disney Plus offers exclusive movies that can’t be seen on any other platform. One of the biggest hits being “Noele,” a Disney original Christmas movie. A film about Kris Kringle’s daughter trying to find her brother and save Christmas!
Not all of these exclusive members only movies are originals either. You can only watch ‘Lady and the Tramp’ ( Live Version) on Disney Plus.

So is Disney Plus worth it? Yes, we believe that once you break down the dollar amount vs. what you would spend on other forms of movie-going entertainment, Disney Plus is a pure win. We also believe that this service is perfect for you if you are a Star Wars, Marvel, or Disney fanatic. Lastly, due to the current pandemic and so many people spending more time indoors, this entertainment type has become more increasingly popular than ever before.
